- Describe who Piaget was, why he developed his theory and what’s important about it.
- Identify the components of Piaget’s theory.
- Examine ways to use Piaget’s theory.
- Prepare to use this theory within your classroom.
In this session, participants will examine Piaget’s Cognitive Theory of Development and analyze ways to apply these concepts in their classroom planning cycle. Attendees will focus primarily on the sensorimotor and preoperational stages (birth to two and two to seven years), with ideas around school age in concrete and formal stages. We will form ideas from the theory into lesson planning and use these theoretical ideas to inform the entire planning cycle including assessment.
