This course is required for Early Care and Education providers regarding Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma in compliance with House Bill 285, and furthermore KRS 199.986 and 922 KAR 2:090. This curriculum was developed by Dr. Melissa Currie on the recognition and prevention of Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma (PAHT). Participants will review updated statistics on the prevalence of abusive head trauma in children, discuss normal and abnormal bruising in children by following TEN-4 FACES-p, define and describe Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma, describe the anatomy of the infant head and brain, understand the range of outcomes for victims of PAHT, discuss the reporting requirements and documentation for providers, and discuss risk factors of families and caregivers. Lastly, this training will discuss safe sleep and best practice for safe sleep environments.
